Movie #14: Man of Steel!!!
Two words for this movie: PURE EPICNESS!!! This movie is amazing, just amazing. This is probably the first Superman movie where they actually show the actual planet of Krypton, in Superman: The Movie(1978), the set designers really didn't do all that much to show Krypton but the production team and visual effects team for this movie made a real effort to show Krypton in its entirety. All the actors and supporting actors were superb and the dialogue between all the characters were perfect and full of depth and passion like a person would believe every word the characters were saying.
Henry Cavill's portrayal of Clark Kent/ Kal-El is mesmerizing and charismatic, definitely Henry Cavill gave out great charisma because Superman could just appear in front of a crowd and they'd be mesmerized. Henry just has that perfect demeanor to pull the character off. Henry has it all: the gorgeous raven hair (dyed he said so himself), the piercing blue eyes, the strong and defined jawline/chin, and not to mention an amazing physique and great posture and tall stature (seriously he's like 6'1'', not as tall as Christopher Reeve or Tom Welling but if anyone would stand next to him he'd be huge).
Amy Adams' portrayal of Lois Lane is down to earth because in other works she's sort of high maintenance and it's great that Amy chose to play Lois in a "real" way. Amy Adams as Lois Lane really is outstanding, Lois has a wide range of feelings that other portrayals of Lois did not have, this Lois has depth, Amy Adams Lois and Erica Durance's Lois of "SMALLVILLE" fame have great spunk!
Michael Shannon, oh that man, just his demeanor alone will creep every audience member out. He's fantastically menacing as General Zod, Terrence Stamp would quiver in Michael's presence and Terrence played a ruthless General Zod as well. It's a shame that Michael Shannon will always play bad guys, just look at his resumé onhttp://www.imdb.com/name/nm0788335/?ref_=sr_1. He'll always be type casted as the "bad guy," and "villain."
The supporting actors were great also. There's Russel Crowe as Jor-El, who seriously has the first 20 minutes of the movie to himself as well as Michael Shannon.
Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent, respectively, they were perfect as Clark's "Earth Parents." Then there's Christopher Meloni as Colonel Nathan Hardy and Harry Lennix as General Swanwick, and also Richard Schiff as army scientist Dr. Emil Hamilton. Last but not least there is of course Laurence Fishbourne as Perry White, who is usually played by a caucasian but it's still great that they chose him to play Perry White instead.
The movie has "all the right moves" so to speak. It's got action, drama, romance, bits of comedy, tragedy, chills, thrills, and oddly enough surprising twists and turns, especially near the end of the movie, which is awesome, the ending is AWESOME!!! The movie also has a great cinematic score by the amazing Hans Zimmer (Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Pirates of the Caribbean).
Zack Snyder clearly did an amazing job directing the movie and he clearly chose the right person to produce the movie. The producer is of course the fantastic Christopher Nolan, the director of The Dark Knight Trilogy. With this duo, it made having Superman appear in the "real and modern world" plausible.
Five stars all around, four stars wouldn't give the movie justice, it wouldn't be enough to show how amazing this movie truly is. It is grand and epic in scale.
*****
P.S- If Man of Steel doesn't get nominated for the 86th Academy Awards I will be truly disappointed, everyone who was apart of this movie should be proud. They did a SUPERB job creating this adventure.
I LOVE HENRY CAVILL!!!
